Gratitude

Instead of focusing on the things you don’t have, focus on the things you do have. Instead of dwelling on your failures, look back at your successes. There is always something to be grateful for and something you can be proud of.

If you are in a state of feeling deprived or if you feel you are lacking something, you will remain stuck in that state. Nothing good can come out of a feeling of deprivation or lack. In fact, you will unconsciously create even more of it. It’s a downward spiral that can suck you to the bottom of the vast and dark ocean if you are not careful.

If you notice a negative emotion creeping in, stay with that emotion for a little while. What is it trying to tell you? Just like the sensation of physical pain, our negative emotions are messengers; they are telling us to pay attention, that something is not right. So figure out what’s behind that negative emotion and then let it go. The emotion delivered the message, so now you need to act on that message to make things right again.

Don’t dwell on that emotion, it won’t make it go away. There are always two sides to a story; everything can be positive and negative at the same time. What is the good that comes with this emotion? What can you learn from it? In what way is it allowing you to grow?

Then express gratitude to this emotion. Smile at it, send it your love. At the moment you smile and express your love and gratitude, the emotion will have lost a lot – if not all – of its heaviness, allowing you to step back and look at the emotion from a wider perspective. Maybe you made things seem more negative as they really were? Maybe you were taking life too seriously?

Whatever it was, express gratitude, send love to everyone who was involved, smile and let go.
